Almost 100 years ago, on October 5th, Sigma was founded by six nursing students at what is today the Indiana University School of Nursing. To remember the organization’s founding principles of love, courage, and honor, Sigma encourages chapters and members to engage in these virtues through volunteer opportunities.
No matter where you are, we encourage you to do what you can to celebrate Founder’s Day! If you are in the Kansas City area and you are interested in volunteering with other Delta members, there is an opportunity to serve on Wednesday, October 6th at HappyBottoms in Kansas City, Missouri. Event Description for Happy Bottoms
Our Mission: To collaborate with community partners to empower, connect and impact low-income families by alleviating diaper need in the Kansas City community.
Impact: Your volunteer efforts enable HappyBottoms to provide diapers to children from low-income families in metro KC, distributed through partner agencies and hospitals.
Description of Shift:
Join other members of the community, middle school age and older, to wrap diapers and fill monthly partner orders. Volunteers will check-in and learn how HappyBottoms is working to eliminate diaper need in KC, tour the warehouse and receive training.
Wrapping includes taking diapers out of boxes/bags, counting, bundling together, wrapping with a machine or by hand and attaching labels. Volunteers may also fulfill diaper orders by placing diaper packs onto carts/pallets and placing in bags/boxes according to order instructions.
There will be light cleaning, sanitizing, recycling and disposing of trash created during the day. Then you can take photos, provide us feedback about your experience and celebrate what you accomplished!
Safety
Volunteers are required to wash hands and wear masks.
Please wear comfortable clothes and closed toe shoes
