Student Awards

STUDENT AWARDS

Each year Delta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau selects a deserving Undergraduate, Masters, and Doctoral of Nursing Practice and PhD student for these chapter awards. The Criteria and Procedures for the selection of these award recipients is described below.

UNDERGRADUATE (BSN), (MSN), and DOCTORATE OF NURSING PRACTICE (DNP) STUDENT AWARDS

Criteria:

  1. GPA of 3.8 or above. 
  2. Graduating in present academic year (August, December, or May). 

Procedures:

  1. Students with qualifying GPA will be notified of eligibility by Research and Awards Committee Chairperson early in the Spring semester. 
  2. Interested candidates must submit the following: 
    1. a typed personal statement (300 words maximum) to the Research and Awards Committee Chairperson that addresses the following: 
      1. Leadership qualities such as professional, college, and community activities including presentations, community work, and publications. 
      2. Contribution to nursing practice, and 
      3. Immediate and long term professional goals. 
    2. A resume or curriculum vita. 
    3. A letter of endorsement from one faculty member at the University Of Kansas School Of Nursing. 
  3. All materials are to be sent to the Research and Awards Committee Chairperson. 
  4. The Research and Awards Committee Chairperson will send a list of nominees and the criteria to all School of Nursing faculty asking them to rank students using a Likert-type scale based  on the following criteria: 
  5. The Research and Awards Committee Chairperson will present the candidates to the Delta Chapter Executive Committee for final selection. 

Awards:

  1. The Undergraduate, Masters, and DNP recipients of this award will receive $150.00 to be presented at the spring chapter meeting.

DOCTORAL (PhD) STUDENT AWARD

Candidates for this award must meet the following criteria:

  1. GPA of 3.8 or above. 
  2. Successful completion of comprehensive examinations.  

Procedure:

  1. Eligible students will be notified by Research and Awards Committee Chairperson early in the Spring semester. 
  2. Typed personal statement (300 words maximum) which will include a description of the following: 
  1. All materials are to be sent to the Research and Awards Committee Chairperson. 
  2. The Research and Awards Committee Chairperson will send a list of nominees and the criteria to all School of Nursing faculty asking them to rank students using a Likert-type scale based n the following criteria: 
  1. The Research and Awards Committee Chairperson will present the candidates to the Delta Chapter Executive Committee for final selection. 

Awards:

  1. The $150.00 monetary award will be presented at the spring chapter meeting.
