A Greeting from the STTI Delta Chapter President -
Dear STTI Delta Chapter Members,

My name is Tona Leiker, the 2017 - 2019 term STTI Delta Chapter President. To let you know a little bit about myself, I am a registered professional nurse and nurse practitioner (CNS) with three degrees in nursing: BSN, MN, and PhD. My professional interests are aligned with creating high-performing organizations that advance the profession of nursing and improve global healthcare. I have a deep passion for advancing nursing standards and compliance in locations where nurses are employed or being educated.

I have lived in Kansas my entire life, am married to my high-school sweetheart, and we have two grown children who each have two children. Our grandchildren all 7 years and under. Our family lives within 30 minutes of each other in the Kansas City area. I love participating in and watching the grandchildren grow and change.

I have been a member of the nursing honor society since 1978. I became a charter chapter member of STTI in 1979 and have remained a member since that time, often serving on a committee or the local Board. I love that Sigma attracts practitioners, scholars, teachers, and administrators from around the world. The organization's apolitical stand resonates with me, yet, at the same time, key projects are addressing social determinants of health around the world. I am looking forward to a great year!

Tona Leiker

For your convenience, request to join our Facebook group by searching "Sigma Theta Tau International - Delta Chapter." We disseminate similar information on our Facebook page as we do on our chapter website.

  • Award Announcement!

Delta Chapter diligently strives to support its members through funding of research, travel, or community initiatives that advance the profession of nursing. Congratulations to Dr. McGee, awarded funding for her continual work, alongside Dr. Barnes, with PREP-KC's HealthStart & Life Sciences Initiatives upcoming summer program.

This program brings local Kansas City Public School System adolescents to the KUMC campus and seeks to inspire students' interests in pursuing careers related to the health sciences. Delta Chapter is proud to support the success of this initiative for a second year.
